Makin Memories

When we were little and on vacay, things would sometimes go very smoothly and sometimes not. Either way, our dad would say-"we're makin memories".

We just got back from makin memories while camping in Steamboat with our good friends Greg and June.

Some of the memories include (this is more for my benefit than yours!):

* stopping at Target only 40 minutes after leaving home to pee

* switching kids and cars just like the good ole days-and using walkie-talkies

* stopping at park in Steamboat just 25 minutes from arriving at campground to pee

*smelling the stinky sulfer hot springs

* stopping at ice cream store 8 minutes from arriving at campground to pee (and have I.C.)

* playing house in the camper

* chipping away at a huge frozen block of pre-made spaghetti that didn't thaw in time for dinner

* boiling coffee in a pot and squeezing out the grounds through a coffee filter b/c we forgot the percolator

* Brian and Greg blowing up a 4-man raft b/c the air compressor we brought didn't have the right adapter

* Greg and June's carbon monoxide detector that wouldn't shut off in their rental RV

* Neighbors tattling to the camp ranger about our noise

* 9 hours of fishing with no results

* almost perfect weather-except for the thunderstorm at 10:30 p.m.

* Jiffy Pop!!

* hiking Fish Creek Falls

* stopping at Ace Hardware in town to pee

* 10, 5 and 3 yr old girls fighting the whole time over who can walk the 9 month old boxer puppy who didn't want to be on the leash anyway

* making pancakes for 8 people in an 8 inch round skillet

* drinking and eating any leftovers you find on the table, no matter whose it was

* playing "Ghost in the Graveyard" at dusk

* "Inflatable potty" and vault toilets

* Going to bed with black feet b/c kids wore crocs and not tennis shoes

* Zach gulping and calling it a "neck fart"

* cold swimming in Steamboat Lake

* playing ladder golf (game we learned from really good friends)

* 8 and 6 yr old boys playing Pokemon cards every waking minute

* Greg burning everything in the fire, including pop cans, bottles and his shorts with a hole in the "junk"

* trying to sleep in a camper that shakes when people roll over

* hooking up camper to leave to find you have no lights and electric brakes

* replacing fuses-after asking other campers for a spare

* and yes, throwing out your back on the last morning so your wife gets to drive home and set up camper at home, unpack, clean and put everything away!
